> The Saga > From Clark Kent... > …to Superman dijous, 22 de juny de 2006
Superman fans are in luck. 'Superman Returns', a new film featuring the celebrated superhero, will be released in the United States on 28 June. Here, the adventures of the Man of Steel will take a little longer to arrive: the film comes out on 12 July.
The feature film, one of the most eagerly awaited in recent times, is directed by Bryan Singer who directed the first two 'X-Men' films (the third has only just come out), featuring the mutant heroes. The cast is headed by Brandon Routh in the role of Superman. Kate Bosworth plays the part of Lois Lane and Kevin Spacey (Oscar winner for 'American Beauty' in 1999) plays the role of Lex Luthor. The veteran actress Eva Marie Saint, another Oscar winner for her role in 'On the Waterfront' (1954), plays Superman's adoptive mother, Martha Kent. In 'Superman Returns', the hero, after an absence of five years, returns to Earth which is being threatened again with destruction by the perverse Lex Luthor, who has just come out of prison. When he arrives back on Earth, Superman discovers that his dear Lois Lane has a son and a new love: the nephew of the editor of the newspaper where she works.
The SagaThe origins of the first and most famous superhero go back to 1938 when Joseph Shuster and Jerry Siegel made him the protagonist of an illustrated story which appeared in the magazine Action Comics. Used as propaganda during the Second World War (1939-1945), Superman achieved immense fame, something which led to adaptations for radio, television and the cinema. Superman's first cinema appearance in colour was in 1978 which catapulted the North American actor Christopher Reeve to fame. Reeve also played Superman in the subsequent three sequels.
From Clark Kent...The main character of the films, Kal-El, comes from Kripton, a planet which is about to die, which is why his father sends him to Earth aboard a spacecraft. After arriving on the Blue Planet, the child is taken in by a couple living in the North American state of Kansas called Jonathan and Martha Kent. As an adult, Clark, as he has been called, leads an apparently normal life, working as a reporter on the 'Daily Planet' alongside Lois Lane with whom he is hopelessly in love.
…to SupermanBut the likeable and shy Clark Kent has another, secret, identity (that of Superman) which he takes on to save the world from the dangers which threaten it. The reporter transforms himself, with an outfit which hides his identity, into a superhero, committed to the causes of justice and truth. To help justice and truth prevail, he has special powers such as the ability to fly, X-ray vision and superhuman strength which he can lose, however, if he comes into contact with radiation from the mineral kryptonite.
