In Europe today political leaders are on trial for the ‘crime’ of allowing citizens to vote. If this was happening in a South American country the condemnations of EU leaders would be deafrning.
Their silence on #Catalonia is shameful and inexcusable! pic.twitter.com/1m24GdjA8L— Matt Carthy TD (@mattcarthy) February 12, 2019
🛑Twelve Catalan politicians go on trial today for their role in Catalonia’s independence #Referendum. But, what is happening in the Spanish State? 🔇Why are pacific leaders put in trial after a more than a year in jail?

Catalan political prisoners are being put on trial today. This is an affront to democracy. They should be free to return to their family and friends. #CatalanTrial https://t.co/xuUDWXeGre

A trial on democracy begins today. 12 elected politicians and civil society leaders are in a Spanish courtroom for defending the voting rights of the people. The future of the people of #Catalonia should of course be decided through a democratic referendum – not by a few judges🎗️

#Strasbourg. #LiberationPrisonnierspolitiques. Urgence!

These trials of elected politicians should concern all democrats. The future of Catalonia should be decided through the ballot box, not in the courts. I am sending my best wishes today to the Catalan President and those facing trial. Let’s hope the process is demonstrably fair. https://t.co/4DCjUEKqIa

Weirdly a political trial starts today in Madrid Europe!! – for holding a peaceful democratic vote in Catalonia.
Spain tries to ban groups like Amnesty from attending the dodgy court!!
