Catalan police shoot dead Barcelona attacker Younes Abouyaaqoub

Catalan police shot dead the man suspected of killing 14 people in Barcelona bringing to end a five-day manhunt. Younes Abouyaaqoub, 22, who was identified by police as the driver of the van that crashed into crowds in Barcelona on Thursday, was on Monday killed near the town of Subirats.

Mossos tweeted: ‘Confirm that the man shot dead in #subirats is Younes Abouyaaqoub, author of the terrorist attack in #barcelona’

He was wearing what appeared to be a suicide vest, police said. A bomb disposal unit was brought in to determine whether the device was real. Abouyaaqoub was the last of the 12-man cell to remain at large, as the others have either been killed or captured in recent days.
