The game we've all be waiting for is coming. This Wednesday, 17 May, FC Barcelona will face Arsenal in the Champions League final, the team's last hurdle if it wants to hold the most important cup in European club football.
Barça reached the final after having won the Spanish league for the second year running. The recent celebrations brought a million fans onto the streets of Barcelona, and even more are expected if the team comes back victorious from Paris, the venue for the final. But the Catalan team is not getting too excited. There's optimism in the Barça camp but the team is also cautious and humble. Finals are always unpredictable, one-off events especially when they involve a great team like Arsenal which has really shone in the last stage of the English league. The Gunners, as they're also known, finished fourth in the league, something which qualifies them for the Champions League next season. The final will be played at 8.45pm at the Stade de France in the French capital, where thousands of Barça and Arsenal followers will cheer on their teams hoping to see their team crowned European champions.
United...Both teams thrill fans with their spectacular playing styles. With Ronaldinho as the star, Frank Rijkaard's team plays attacking, efficient football, not losing a match in this year's European League. With a more solid defence than last year, Barça can count on Xavi in midfield after having overcome a serious injury.
....for a Good Game
+ Thierry Henry may play for Barça next season.
Arsenal haven't lost a game either in this year's European competition. What's more, they haven't given away a single goal during the last eight, quarter- or semi-final rounds. A young Catalan player, ex-Barça player, Cesc Fàbregas dictates a lot of the play for manager Arsene Wenger's team. The London's side's captain is Thierry Henry who, it is rumoured, may play for Barça next season.
The Most Coveted TitleWith half a century of history, the Champions League is the most coveted victory especially at this time. Barcelona, one of the most famous teams in European football, has only won the title once when it beat Sampdoria Genova 1-0 at the old Wembley Stadium in 1992. As for the equally-famous Arsenal, it's the first time they've reached the final, something which no other London club has done.
