The agreement on the electoral program among all of the pro-sovereignty forces to the European elections seems difficult, keeping in mind that ICV has distanced itself. Today, however, the president of the Catalan National Assembly (ANC), Carme Forcadell, insisted that the ANC had not yet thrown in the towel and that it would strive for such an agreement to be made. In fact, today ANC will continue to insist with ICV in the meeting that it will hold this afternoon. For the moment, CDC and ERC have transmitted a feeling of optimism with respect to the right to decide in the European elections.
CDC pointed out the ‘shared principles’ with Unió, ERC and ICV-EUiA on the referendum. ‘The question is whether there is consensus on the text or if everybody writes their own, but in the end, it comes out about the same,’ said the CDC’s Secretary for Organization, Josep Rull. At his side, the General vice-secretary for Institutional Coordination, Lluís Corominas, had not ruled out a joint event with ERC, as the Republican leader, Oriol Junqueras, implied on the same day that the party designated Ramon Tremosa as the head of the party list for the European Parliament.
For his part, the president of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, recognized the interest in incorporating people from the PSC sphere in the ERC lists for the European elections. In an interview with RAC1, the Republican leader insisted that he would be very happy if a good number of Socialists joined ERC’s project ‘in favor of the right to decide and social democracy’. The former PSC leaders Ernest Maragall and Montserrat Tura and the former member of parliament Toni Comín were the names on the table. Junqueras explained that he would like these negotiations to be completed for the European elections, although he didn’t rule out continuing talks up to the municipal or Catalan Parliamentary elections, after the referendum set for November 9.
Junqueras also didn’t rule out an electoral program of pro-sovereignty parties for the European elections that end up adopting a common platform plank in defense of the referendum, even though ICV has said it would not be a party to it.
In addition, Junqueras proposed holding a joint campaign event with all of the parties in favor of the referendum.
